"Images in Stone. Detroit. The first 300 years" is a book, which will feature renderings in pen and ink of major historical landmarks in Metro Detroit. The drawings are intended to highlight the beauty of Detroit’s architecture. Currently decaying structures will be "fixed", and not portrait in their current state. This approach is supposed to foster appreciation of these historical structures by showing their potential in opposition to the current trend of tearing them down. Each drawing will be connected with educational information about the particular site. Historical and architectural relevance are two of the main criteria for choosing the buildings/monuments/Images in Stone. Motivation for the book is to counterbalance Detroit’s image as one of the world’s most "beautifully decaying cities", as which it is portrait in an exhibition which is travelling around the world. The aim of the project is to create an educational high quality (art-) book about Metro Detroit as well as an appealing item for purchase for art lovers and tourists who are visiting the city. |
